Since I started doing makeup professionally, sanitation has been one of the most important things to me when it comes to performing makeup services on my clients. Your face is one of the easiest ways to contract a disease or illness. Our eyes, nose, and mouth are gateways for spreading bacteria. My clients’ safety is my number one concern next to your satisfaction with your service; which is why I always take extra steps to ensure I am providing both a beautiful and hygienic service.
Taking the extra five or ten minutes to properly sanitize and clean in between clients is something that you won’t find every makeup artist in the industry doing. Many artists choose speed and quantity which in return often neglects a sanitary practice. I pride myself in being trained by the Sanitation Conversation to take necessary cautionary measures to ensure I am providing the best service for you.
A few of these practices include:
I never use an applicator that comes from a product directly onto a client's face. This is very unsanitary because you are putting everyone's germs back into the product and spreading it onto the next person. I use disposable mascara wands, lip applicators, cotton pads, and other applicators to ensure a one time use. Instead of using the back of my hand, I also have a palette that I sanitize in between each client. I use disposable spatulas to scoop out the makeup that I will be using, including lipstick, eyeliner, brow products, etc.
A clean makeup brush is key to a hygienic service as well as a clean makeup application! I hate to see dirty brushes that sit in kits unclean and are used on multiple clients. This is why I always use a fresh clean and sanitized brush set on each client. You can feel 100% comfortable in my chair knowing that the brushes used to apply your makeup wasn't used on the client before you!
Hand washing is performed before and after each client. I also have hand sanitizer on my work station that I use often or in case a sink is not available. Hand Sanitizer is so important to have available especially in the case if I were to drop a brush or tool and pick it up before returning to applying makeup on your face.
After each client I do a quick clean up of my station before I continue on to the next. I wipe down my work surfaces with antibacterial wipes and spray all powder products with alcohol to kill any bacteria.
